Shurley Grammar

Shurley Grammar is a unique tool, specifically designed to help students master the parts of speech and sentence structure. Students learn definitions for the parts of speech through jingles that incorporate rhythm, rhyme, movement, and fun. Then, they are introduced to our well-defined system of classifying sentences known as the Question and Answer Flow. Through word analysis, students gain a better understanding of the parts that make up a sentence. With this basic grammar foundation in place, students are introduced to a clear, structured method for writing sentences that provide for clear, precise communication.

Stepping Stones to English
Targeted Instruction: Grammar for Spanish ELL
Print Format Only
Our specialized curriculum, Stepping Stones to English, provides sound, direct instruction of the Shurley method in Spanish first and then with an Integrated Language Phase. Instruction begins in Spanish so that students fully comprehend the Shurley method. Then, English is gradually introduced to help students gain confidence for the transition phase of the program. ELLs will gain confidence with both their first language and English in a systematic, logical approach. When students have completed all the learning and transition phases, they will have acquired the essential English skills they need for success in the regular classroom.
